How to Make Horchata

Here’s how to make your own delicious horchata:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of white rice
  • 5 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Ice for serving

Directions:

  1. Wash the rice with cold water until it is clear.
  2. Place rice which has been rinsed in a blender along with 2 cups of water. Process until the rice is ground fine.
  3. If you have an extremely fine mesh strainer, that will work best or pour the mixture through cheese cloth into a large pitcher and allow them to strain.
  4. Then pour in its entirety (5 cups) and add the milk, sugar, vanilla extract & cinnamon to the pitcher. Stir well to combine.
  5. Place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours.
  6. Serve over ice and enjoy!
