How to Make Fry Bread

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying
  • Honey butter (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.
  2. Add the lukewarm water into dry ingredients bit by bit, stir with spatula until the flour turned in to a soft dough.
  3. Lightly knead the dough on a floured work surface until you get smooth.
  4. Roll up and shape the dough to 1/4 inch thick disks
  5. First, heat oil in a large deep skillet over medium to high temperature.
  6. For the disks- Fry each one about 2 minutes on both sides.
  7. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Hot off the griddle, slather with honey butter and sprinkle powdered sugar on top…or use for Navajo tacos.
